Shalene graduated from Hope Secondary School where she gave the valedictory address to her graduating class in 2009. She graduated within the top 10% of her class and was very involved in basketball, soccer, leadership, grad committee, band, and many other extracurricular community activities. Shalene has played for the prestigious Metro soccer league here in Chilliwack in her late teens, as well as College Basketball for the Columbia Bible College Bearcats where she scholarshiped for a year as the point guard. Shalene has also been a part of the Lower Mainland 'AA' Ringette team and went on to represent Team B.C in her sport.
Shalene helped to create and design as well as lead an after school sports and arts initiative program for four years in four Chilliwack elementary schools. This program was targeted at youth at risk and inner-city schools and had a focus on developing physical literacy, fundamental movement skills, and nutrition for all ages. The program was recognized and granted with the Premier's Award after its 4th year in the Innovation Category. Shalene has also ran summer camps for all ages and skill levels at Prospera Centre for more than 5 years and was the lead instructor and supervisor of all the learn to skate programs there. Community coaching is also a passion of hers. Over the past 3 years, Shalene has instructed and trained hockey teams ranging from 4 year olds to the Jr. A Chilliwack Chiefs alongside Paul Nicolls at Xceed Centre.
Shalene recently has graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley as of May 2017 with her Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology. Her focus is on team and individual training as well as rehabilitation with a special focus on movement efficiency and competitive sports.
